It’s done and I’m in LOVE! I’ve been drooling over this shelf since I spotted it over at . She just recently added a little FYI tutorial to her site so we could all have an awesome faux beam in our on home! I also finished re-painting my entire house. It went from a neutral tan to a greenish/blue. It’s quite the change but I really wanted something that would lighten up my space and it did just that!
We are in the process of re-wiring the living room so we can swap the couch and the TV (hint… that’s why the TV isn’t centered below the beam). We want to open the space up a little more. I’m still not sure if I will like it better; so here is a good before picture. I’ll post some pics when we get it swapped and you can give me your opinion!
The decor is a little on the dark side right now because of my new fall leaf garland. I love those big chunky leaves though ;)
I bought the leaf garland, yellow clock, the @ sign and little green tree shrub from Rod Works just recently. The scale, and lantern are my awesome antique finds. Everything else I’ve had on hand for quite awhile. mentioned that she paid a lot for her corbels. I purchased both of mine from Hobby Lobby for $20 BUCKS total! When I bought them they were black. I painted them cream and added some glaze. Here is the Hobby Lobby down low! They rotate through the different departments and have a 50% off sale every week. If you wait it out whatever you need from there will most likely go 50% off. It saves A LOT when you are purchasing spendy things.
The little skeleton heads are from the Dollar Store last year. I am in LOVE with my new pillows! My good friend just bought some of these from IKEA and I just couldn’t resist! The covers are only $13 and the pillow inserts are $6.99. Love them!
So what do ya think about the faux beam? I think it’s just what my over sized wall needed! Have a fantastic weekend. We are celebrating my little man’s 2nd birthday tomorrow :)

I love your beam shelf! I have been wanting to do something like this for some time and was just thinking a couple days ago “I just need a couple of corbels and some kind of shelving”. I love what you did with it – and I especially love the rustic wood. Keep us posted. ;)
Thanks Christa! You were totally right…. just a few corbels and some shelving. They key was finding something that wasn’t too heavy. Mine is actually screwed to a stud that’s been attached to the studs in the wall. The corbels serve as decor only. It’s exactly what my living room needed ;) If you want to make one check out the link on my post to I Am Momma… she has pictures that are very helpful!
That is so great! I think I may have to have one of those in my house – my hubby wanted the TV over the fireplace so now I don’t have a mantle to decorate!
Rhonda @ home.made.
Thanks Rhonda! Funny that you mention the mantle because mine is actually filling in the void of not having a fireplace/mantle in my home! Its essentially the same thing…. just not above a fireplace ;)
Hi Erin, thanks for stopping by my blog today! I LOVE your faux beam shelf. I looks awesome. The “chunkiness is perfect”. I need to wonder over and goes that tutorial. I think I have the perfect spot to put one of these!

Thanks Mandy! Let me know if you end up making one I would love to see the pictures :)
This faux beam looks great! It’s always great to rearrange and try new layouts for the house. It’s a cheap way to update the house without having to buy anything! And those pillows are fab. Love the ties on the sides. P.S. Thanks for stopping by my blog :)
Bekah
Thanks Bekah :) We just rearranged the house… and I’m not sure if I like it! I’ll have to post pictures soon! I agree though it is the perfect/cheapest fix!
This is stunning..like..magazine worthy! The beam is terrific and the way you styled it is incredible. You are welcomed in my home any day :)

I love this shelf! I am your newest follower :-)
What a great shelf!
The shelf looks great and because of the big wall you needed the big beam! It looks great! Thanks for visiting and your nice comments!
What a great look I think it opened the room. it looks larger and the ceiling looks taller to me. And as usual everything on it is put together so cute , is the shelf hollow? It looks very heavy.
It’s hallow! That was the trick to make it look heavy and real but not be too heavy! I’m glad it tricked your eye ;)
ooohh!! I saw the shelf on I am Momma as well. I love yours!! I love that you saw it & liked it…and actually followed through and made it. I have problems with the following through part. :)
That looks fabulous!
Thank you so much for your kind comment on my blog! Wonderful job on your shelf and the $20 corbels are gorgeous. Wish we had Hobby Lobby here!
Thanks Tracy! I wish you had a Hobby Lobby close to you also…. they just built one ten minutes away from my house. I’m still not sure if that’s a good thing or bad lol
waoo..its really interesting :) so cool!!
I love the beam. Years ago I had one placed over my patio doors, it was just fabulous. Or so I thought! Now that I see yours with those gorgeous corbels , I know my work is not quite done. Love your style.

Is that faux beam made of real wood or from foam? I’ve seen some on that are made from foam. If yours is fake it REALLY looks real! I love it, the corbels too!
Thanks! It’s real wood. It’s just a hallow box that is built to look like a beam!
