West Elm Wednesday ~ Kantha Line

OH MY OH MY OH MY do I have news for you. West Elm is opening a store in the SLC area at our new City Creek Center! Holla… my husband is so excited I cant wait :) Don’t you fret though I will still gladly share my West Elm faves with you every Wednesday (almost every Wednesday, at least on the weeks that I don’t forget!).

I LOVE almost every single pillow from West Elm but I’ve really been crushing on their Kantha line. I love that each pillow is unique! This is what West Elm has to say about the Kantha pillow, “Pieced and patched. Hand embellished with strips of Kantha fabric. Because every pillow cover is composed of recycled materials, each is subtly one of a kind.”

I love them all!

Kantha Chevron Pillow Cover

Kantha Quilted Pillow Cover

Kantha Jaipur Stripe Pillow Cover

All of these beautiful pillows are 20″ and range from $29 – $34. West Elm use to have a Kantha throw that was awesome! I’ve spotted a few of the throws at my local DownEast Outfitters for an awesome price.

West Elm Wednesday {Rugs}

Today I’ve got my eye on West Elm’s awesome rug selection! They have a wide variety of colors, styles, and sizes. I wouldn’t mine owning a few!

If your looking for color and pattern the Zigzag Rug is lovely.

I’m a sucker for a good navy blue and white rug and the Kite Kilim Rug would look awesome in my living room!

I love this Lourdes Sanchez Bull’s-Eye Rug. I would put it in a colorful library/office, playroom, or little kids room!

You can’t go wrong with the Gradiated-Stripe Cotton Rug. That orange one holds my heart.

If your looking for a more neutral rug the Jute Chenille Herringbone and the Oasis Flatweave Rug are great choices!

I would love one of each!

Hanging Your Curtains:Rules

Kirsten Krason from 6th Street Design School shared some awesome curtain hanging tips on her blog.

Here is the segment she did on Studio 5 but I’ll give you the summary of her tips……

  1. How to Hang:  Hang them HIGH! Hang your curtains at least 5-8 inches higher than your window. This will help the ceilings seem taller and the window setting looks better.  You really can’t hang them too high!
  2.  Length: Floor length curtains need to touch the floor. If they aren’t it looks like you didn’t measure properly. If you want a more formal look allow your curtains to pool on the floor. If you want to use short curtains…. make them short.
  3.  Custom: Custom curtains are great for creating a more unique look. This is also a great way to go if you are in need of a longer length curtain. Kirsten recommend finding a great priced curtain and sewing them yourself.
  4. Pattern: If you want to use patterned curtains be careful not to put them in a room that already has a lot going on. Color is also very important. You want a curtain that offers contrast against your walls. If you want to add other patterns in the room go with a more simple pattern.
  5.  Budget: Curtains can be expensive but are just as important as the rest of the furniture in your room. “It’s the biggest wow factor in the room.” It’s important to budget appropriately so you can purchase good quality curtains.
  6. Tips to Save: ~You can buy just one panel and cut it in half.  ~Add a solid piece of fabric to the bottom of your panels. This saves you money because you are adding length to a shorter panel. ~Use  sheets to make your own curtains.
  7. Purchasing Curtains: A few good places are Ikea, Target, World Market

Awesome tips right! Make sure to stop by her blog and check out the full Studio 5 Segment.

Just to fill your curiosity….. here are a few pictures of the curtains Kirsten has in her home.
