Tutorial of the week…..

I am working on an awesome tutorial for you! This awesome lamp shade is for my clients entry table and I really can’t wait to see the finished product! I might be making a few more of these for my bedroom depending on how the first one goes ;) Do ya want to see my inspirational picture?

It doesn’t look like it should be too hard to duplicate right? I’ve had problems with “decorators block” lately so hopefully it goes smoothly! Wish me luck! I hope you have a lovely week! I’ll post pictures and the tutorial soon!

New Living Room Layout

First off I am completely open to honest opinions. I will share mine with you but don’t let it affect what you think! We rearranged our living room and I have a problem….. I think I like it better the old way. Here are the pro’s/con’s to the layouts…….

Old Layout

Pros:

  • very cozy and comfortable
  • visually appealing

Cons:

  • doesn’t provide a lot of floor space
  • unable to use end tables with lamps due to outlet/cord issues
  • not enough space for a coffee table
  • couldn’t see the TV very well from the love seat

New Layout

Pros:

  • A LOT more floor space
  • I can use a coffee table and end tables
  • you can see the TV well from love seat and sofa

Cons:

  • not as visually appealing

OK… OK… the pro’s/con’s make it totally obvious which layout I should stick with but here is my battle. I’m a very visual person and the new layout just isn’t fulfilling my visual needs but I love that it provides more floor space for the kiddos to play.

Here are the things I still need to add to the room. Maybe once I finish it and add the missing pieces I will like it a little more…… enough babbling….. what are your thoughts? Sorry the pics are a little dark… it was a gloomy day.

Faux Beam Shelf

It’s done and I’m in LOVE! I’ve been drooling over this shelf since I spotted it over at . She just recently added a little FYI tutorial to her site so we could all have an awesome faux beam in our on home!  I also finished re-painting my entire house. It went from a neutral tan to a greenish/blue. It’s quite the change but I really wanted something that would lighten up my space and it did just that!

We are in the process of re-wiring the living room so we can swap the couch and the TV (hint… that’s why the TV isn’t centered below the beam). We want to open the space up a little more. I’m still not sure if I will like it better; so here is a good before picture. I’ll post some pics when we get it swapped and you can give me your opinion!

The decor is a little on the dark side right now because of my new fall leaf garland. I love those big chunky leaves though ;)

I bought the leaf garland, yellow clock, the @ sign and little green tree shrub from Rod Works just recently. The scale, and lantern are my awesome antique finds. Everything else I’ve had on hand for quite awhile.  mentioned that she paid a lot for her corbels. I purchased both of  mine from Hobby Lobby for $20 BUCKS total! When I bought them they were black. I painted them cream and added some glaze. Here is the  Hobby Lobby down low! They rotate through the different departments and have a 50% off sale every week. If you wait it out whatever you need from there will most likely go 50% off. It saves A LOT when you are purchasing spendy things.
The little skeleton heads are from the Dollar Store last year. I am in LOVE with my new pillows! My good friend just bought some of these from IKEA and I just couldn’t resist! The covers are only $13 and the pillow inserts are $6.99. Love them!

So what do ya think about the faux beam? I think it’s just what my over sized wall needed! Have a fantastic weekend. We are celebrating my little man’s 2nd birthday tomorrow :)

Lamps Lamps Lamps

I finally found a can of Krylon’s Looking Glass spray paint! I’m tellin ya I’ve searched for this for weeks now and was about to have some special ordered. I would have had to purchase four cans… so I’m glad I waited! I found mine at Hobby Lobby. It’s only a 6oz can so you have to look by the smaller spray paints. Remember my lamp that I bought at the DI? I’ve been dying to try out the looking glass spray paint on it.

I hope to turn that beauty into this

I found a burlap lamp shade at a yard sale for A BUCK! I can’t wait to start painting!

I also have a tutorial in the works. I’m working on a client’s formal living room and entry way right now and  I’ve been searching for a lamp shade for her entry table. I was after a shade that had color and texture. I found the perfect shade at Anthropologie but it came with a hefty price tag of $98. I have high hopes of recreating this shade and providing a tutorial for you! I’m on the search for the fabric right now so stay tuned!
