Faux Brick Wall

It’s finally finished and I’m in LOVE! It took me a little longer than anticipated but that’s usually how my projects pan out! Here is the nitty gritty….

Brooke’s inspiration picture, and the faux brick wall that she created from it, were my inspiration. The messy brick look instantly captured my heart and became the missing piece for my room. I was determined to achieve this look!

I purchased the faux brick panels from Lowes and attached them to the wall using liquid nails and a nail gun.

To give the wall a textured look I used joint compound in place of paint (Brooke used a white paint to cover the black grout and to create the “smeared” areas). To add extra depth and texture I used my finger to apply the compound to the grouted areas.  I had to remind myself that I was after an imperfect look. The faster and thicker you layer it on the better it looks! After the grout was filled in I used a mud spatula to smear the compound in random areas. Again, aim for imperfection!

Next up on the list is reupholstering my headboard! Slowly but surely my room is coming together.  Here is a little peak at what the room looks like with the bed against the wall. The missing piece was filled and my room finally has character!

Oh and just in case you were wondering…….this is what it looked like before! The wall looks SO much smaller and sad… really its screaming “add something marvelous to me please please please” ha!

Duvet Covers

I’m on the search for some bedding for my room and this is hard work I tell ya! I’ve found a few potentials the only problem is that they are completely different! I need your help so go ahead a pick your favorite.

First up is the Vanessa bedding from Pottery Barn. I love the print and the colors.

I’m slightly worried that it will be too busy with my faux brick wall. This type of print kinda needs to be the center of attention.

My other option is the Striped Duvet Cover from West Elm. I love the simplicity of this bedding.

So which one is your favorite? Do you have “secret spots” where you shop for bedding?

The Star Mill

I’ve been impatiently waiting for this cute little place to finally open its doors for the season. This is a new find of mine and I quickly fell in love with this awesome place. My curiosity spiked as I was reading Kirsten’s blog and saw this beautiful mirror that was purchased there.

This place is lovely! Its an old mill owned by a family with a passion for antiques. Its full of amazing nick naks and treasures. The owner and her sweet family were so nice and helpful! Even if you aren’t out for a good find its amazing just to walk through.

Take a look:

The cutest room in the entire place: The Jar Room. Wouldn’t it be cute to have a wall like this in a playroom?

I couldn’t resist buying a few things.

My mirror, lamp, and books = $42!

I love the color and detail on this mirror.

I couldn’t resist buying a few books from that lovely book wall :)

I will be making frequents stops to this new found ! For those of you local to the SLC area, who want to visit, they are open Thursday-Saturday from Noon-6pm!

ColorSnap App

I was flipping through the latest addition of Traditional Home and there was a one page picture of the Sherwin Williams Colorsnap app. Say What! Its a free app that picks colors from a picture and matches it to a paint color for you. For real… genius I tell ya! I snagged the app and can’t wait to try it out! I’m curious to see how accurate it really is. So far it looks pretty cool. I played around with some colors matching my pillows in my bedroom.

You simply touch the screen in any area of your picture and it pulls up a color.

Once you find the ones you like you save the color palate.

It seems pretty easy and it’s extremely helpful! I think Benjamin Moore also has an app similar to this. So cool… for the love of smart phones ha ha!
