West Elm Wednesday ~ Kantha Line

OH MY OH MY OH MY do I have news for you. West Elm is opening a store in the SLC area at our new City Creek Center! Holla… my husband is so excited I cant wait :) Don’t you fret though I will still gladly share my West Elm faves with you every Wednesday (almost every Wednesday, at least on the weeks that I don’t forget!).

I LOVE almost every single pillow from West Elm but I’ve really been crushing on their Kantha line. I love that each pillow is unique! This is what West Elm has to say about the Kantha pillow, “Pieced and patched. Hand embellished with strips of Kantha fabric. Because every pillow cover is composed of recycled materials, each is subtly one of a kind.”

I love them all!

Kantha Chevron Pillow Cover

Kantha Quilted Pillow Cover

Kantha Jaipur Stripe Pillow Cover

All of these beautiful pillows are 20″ and range from $29 – $34. West Elm use to have a Kantha throw that was awesome! I’ve spotted a few of the throws at my local DownEast Outfitters for an awesome price.

The Star Mill

I’ve been impatiently waiting for this cute little place to finally open its doors for the season. This is a new find of mine and I quickly fell in love with this awesome place. My curiosity spiked as I was reading Kirsten’s blog and saw this beautiful mirror that was purchased there.

This place is lovely! Its an old mill owned by a family with a passion for antiques. Its full of amazing nick naks and treasures. The owner and her sweet family were so nice and helpful! Even if you aren’t out for a good find its amazing just to walk through.

Take a look:

As if the place wasn’t already amazing…. it has a wall of books that totally won me over!

The cutest room in the entire place: The Jar Room. Wouldn’t it be cute to have a wall like this in a playroom?

I couldn’t resist buying a few things.

My mirror, lamp, and books = $42!

I love the color and detail on this mirror.

I couldn’t resist buying a few books from that lovely book wall :)

I will be making frequents stops to this new found ! For those of you local to the SLC area, who want to visit, they are open Thursday-Saturday from Noon-6pm!

The Famous Green Smoothies

I know this is not the post you are use to seeing here but I really had to share! Hopefully I don’t loose any of you with this first recipe ;) Since it’s the beginning of a new year I’m sure there are quite a few of you (including myself) that are trying to improve your diet. My awesome mom brought a lovely little magazine over the other day (Everyday Food the Light Issue). As I was flipping through I came across this recipe……

Avocado-Banana Smoothie

{source}

1 avocado

1 banana

1/2 cup nonfat plain Greek yogurt

1 1/2 cups fresh orange juice (from 3 oranges) I used store bought – Simply Orange

1/4 cup honey ( I used an 1/8 cup agave nectar)

2 1/2 to 3 cups of ice

Blend until smooth

When I first glanced at the picture and read Avocado-Banana Smoothie I immediately turned up my nose. My boys both wanted smoothies for breakfast and I realized I only had bananas and avocados in my fruit basket. Well…. I figured I’d give it a try and to my surprise it was AMAZING. My two boys (four and two) drank the entire thing! So go ahead, give it a whirl!

We’ve also been trying our hand at green smoothies. I found this recipe that sounds really tasty too.

Green Machine Smoothie

{source}

1 cup packed fresh spinach leaves

1 1/4 cups white grape juice or pear juice

1/2 avocado

1 Granny Smith apple, peeled and cut into 1-inch pieces

1 cup ice

Blend until Smooth.

For those of you who haven’t tried spinach in a smoothie. I swear to you it doesn’t change the taste at all. If you blend it really well you can’t even tell it’s in there. Both of my boys get spinach in their smoothies and don’t blink an eye. If they comment on the color I tell them its a leprechaun smoothie ;) It works every time!

2011 Wrap Up

WOW what a year! I’ll be honest…. I was pretty oblivious that it “really” takes that much work to run a blog! I haven’t quite reached my one year mark yet with Lavender and Lemon Drops but I’ve already learned A LOT! I’ve made a few new and dear friends through blogging and I’m really LOVING it! I decided to browse around in the “Stats” area of my blog and thought it would be fun to do a little yearly wrap up. I’ll share your “Favorite” blog posts along with a few of mine.

Lets start with your favorites:

# ONE – was my Striped Bathroom

This is my boys bathroom/the main bath. I LOVE the transformation and I still think it might be my favorite room in the house! This is also my #1 FAVORITE post!

# TWO – The Anthropology Knock Off Lamp Shade

I made this lamp shade for a client. I was  inspired by a lamp shade I found at Anthropology but gasped at the price! It was fun to create a knock off version for less than ten bucks!

# THREE – Tiered Plate Stands

This was one of my very first posts. Honestly when I checked my Stats to see what the “favorite” posts were I was rather surprised to see this one but I’m glad you like them :) These cute little stands are perfect for hosting parties and serving up all of those yummy treats.

Now for my Favorites:

Knock Off West Elm Curtains

The Faux Beam Shelf
That big ol’ shelf added A LOT of character to my living room! Do you guys remember my on going battle between layouts? Well…. I’m still kinda in love with this one so I might be rearranging soon ;)

The Old Revamped Mirror

This is one of my favorite things in my home! I’m so glad the first attempt at refinishing my old mirror didn’t work out because I created this!

Thanks you so much for following along with me as I explore my creative side and grow my blog! I truly appreciate all of my followers and every single comment you leave! I also want to thank all of my Party Peeps. I am grateful for the weekly opportunities to link up and share what I’ve been working on.  I hope to kick off the new year with a more catchy blog design that my sweet husband is helping me with!  I wish you all the very best through next year :)
