Master Bedroom Update

Sorry I’ve been MIA lately. I’m slaving away in my bedroom trying to get it finished.  All of the molding is up and waiting to be painted/touched up. I’m also working on creating a faux brick wall. Its gonna take me a little while but I hope to have it finished soon. This is my inspirational picture and what I hope my wall turns out like!

I’ve also slightly changed my original plan for my bed. I’ve seen several tutorials on how to build/upholster your own headboard. That was my original plan until I found a great headboard for only $80. It will give me the exact look that I want and I wont have to build it, BONUS! I still plan to reupholster it I just need to decided how.

The New Headboard

Here are my Options:

1. Painted/Stained with a Pintucked Center

2.Upholstered with Nail Head Trim

3. Upholstered with Nail Head Trim and Pintucked

I’m leaning towards option 2 but don’t let that waver your opinion. For now please be patient with me and my lack of posting! I promise it will be worth it :)

Refinshed Coffee Table

Alright guys my $30 coffee table took me FOREVER to finish, phew sorry about that. I had a “vision” and I ignored it…. BIG mistake. My vision was the stained top table but I painted the entire thing white and I hated it! I had to sand all of the white paint off and stain the top but it was so worth it!

After I finished sanding the top the little nobs turned more silver colored. It added a little industrial feel that I really liked so I added the industrial wheels to match and to add height.

I’m getting major spring fever so I figured it’s time to use some fresh decor. I found these metal floral prints at Rod Works and couldn’t resist. They are really meant for my bedroom but I’m using them here for now.

I switched out my stenciled curtains for the white curtains I had in my bedroom. They lightened up the room and gave it a fresh new look.

Do ya wanna see what my living room look liked when we first moved in? It was about 3 years ago…. for the LOVE of brown lol ;)

Ahhhh much better! Our new paint color changed the entire feel of our home and its exactly what I was going for!

So have you started switching things up and adding in your spring decor?

Master Bedroom Design

My original plan for our bedroom was to create a beachy retreat feel. I’ve been gradually working on it but I’m not satisfied with the way things are turning out. Also, I decided that my resolution (design wise) for the new year is to be BOLD. I desperately need to jump out of my comfort zone and start experimenting with color. So, the plans for our bedroom have changed, and I might be in love! I want our bedroom to have color that both my husband and I like and my goal is to create an area that feels fancy and mature. So, here are my plans:

1.Metal Plaques purchased at Rod Works.

2. Create a DIY headboard similar to this one. I would love to make an upholstered bed frame to go with it, we’ll see!

3. I am in LOVE with white curtains a dark trim right now. So fancy! I plan to create a DIY version of these beauties.

4. The blue and white stripes will balance out the room a little and coordinate well with the other patterns I have planned for the room.

5. I LOVE these pillows! Here’s the dilemma….. I almost shat my pants when I found out how much a yard of that pretty floral fabric costs! It’s Schumacher’s Hot House fabric and don’t you worry…. it’s only a mere $105 a yard! I’m on a desperate search for the knock off version. Wish me luck :)

I’m still deciding on paint colors and trim work so I can’t do much until the room is painted. I’ll keep you updated!

Living Room Tables

Underneaths….. do you paint them? Ya know…. when you are refinishing a piece of furniture and you know that no one will see underneath it (well maybe your cute little children) do you paint it? I’ve had this little curvy end table for my living room for quite awhile; it got a much needed coat of paint today. Do I paint underneath it?

I stopped at the D.I. (thrift store) yesterday to grab a gag gift and found this beauty…..

I’ve been looking for a coffee table for awhile to fill the awkward open space in my room. I dove right in and painted both of my tables as soon as the kiddos went down for their naps. My approach on painting was a bit different this time.

Yep, that’s my kitchen. It’s getting a little chilly here in Utah and the garage just didn’t make for a very comfy painting space.  No worries. I’m using good ol latex paint so it didn’t fume up the house and I put my tables on old blankets so my floor didn’t get dirty.

I swore I had more paint trays but …. I didn’t and I was DETERMINED to get these bad boys painted. So I compromised by using….. TA DA paper plates! Awesome, I know, but they worked.

Hey, it all worked out and my tables got their lovely coat of off white. The paint dried much faster than it would have painting it in the freezing garage and they were done before the kiddos woke up! SCORE! The question is…. do you paint your underneaths? I didnt ;)

I’ll post the finished pictures soon. The tables just need a little distressing and glaze so they aren’t so stark white :)
