I’d been searching for quite awhile to find a long oval shaped mirror. I was at our local thrift store when I spotted a mirror, just like the one below but without the stand, and it was priced at five bucks!
Yippee I took my proud thrift home and got to work on the makeover. I pulled the entire mirror out to paint it…… when I put it back in it shattered. Ya know those “projects gone wrong” that pretty much bring you to tears? That’s exactly what happened to me. I was VERY upset that my vision wasn’t going as planned. I called around to price a new mirror and it would cost $60. I pushed my broken project aside and left it for a few months. Sometimes I think that’s the best thing…..it gives you time to recover (ha ha ha) and let your creativity brew. I’m so glad I did because this is what I came up with instead……
I covered the cardboard backing of the mirror in burlap and VOILA! I already had my pretty book wreath hanging on my wall all by itself but it looks more “at home” hanging here!
It now softens up the wall above my T.V and I honestly couldn’t happier that my project was a FAIL.
I don’t think I’ve shared this view of my living room yet. It’s all coming along! I guess everything does happen for a reason even if it pertains to home decor ;)

Hi, glad I found your site. I just picked up a couple dressers off CL and guess what the guy threw in for free….YUP, THE mirror! I too have been searching high and low. Now I have to do a makeover….I pray I don’t break it! Sorry for your mishap, but I’m sure you will find another soon. I’m a new follower. Stop by and visit and follow too if you like. Warm wishes
Thanks for the visit Lori! Good luck on your dresser and mirror makeovers. I was in a really big hurry when I broke mine so its partially my fault :/ I’m sure yours will work out great! I love your cute blog :)
The mirror looks great! Thanks for commenting on my potential mirror too…and ironically I just did a burlap project which I will post this week! Your blog is lovely.

Thanks Wendy! I’ll have to stop by your blog :)
I did the same thing on a project I was doing for a neighbor, I had some extra mirror from another project and took it to a window and mirror shop, they were able to cut my mirror to size for their minimum shop fee of $15.00 so you could go the the thrift store find a mirror the same size for cheap and have your local shop cut it for you.
That is SUCH a great idea Jacquie! Thanks for the info! I’ll have to keep that in mind :)
Wow, I t hink you got lucky when the mirror broke! This looks lovely. What a great statement it makes. I love burlap on anything and your book wreath hanging looks great on it. thanks for stopping by and letting me know you like my holiday table runner with the ruffle down the middle.
Thanks Cathy! I did get pretty lucky :) I love my new burlaped piece!
It looks fantastic! Too bad you lost the mirror you wanted but the final product is fabulous.
Ruth
Thanks Ruth :) Luckily i came up with something lovely to replace my first plans and vision!
Oh no! I would’ve cried! But you made something beautiful anyway; it looks great!
I just about did…. and I’m not one to cry lol I had to choke back those tears! I’m glad I replaced it with something that I now love :)
When you tire of the wreath, you could hang a small (budget) mirror inside the frame and let it “float” there.
That’s a great idea Janette! Thanks for sharing :)
Oh no, that sounds like the kind of luck I’d have. You came up with a great solution though…very cute :)
Wow, what a creative way of using a mirror. I love how it looks as a wall accent all covered up in burlap. It’s beautiful! Thanks for sharing this! :)
Love it – how many times have I seen an ugly old mirror at the thrift shop! Next time, I won’t pass it by.
Kelly
What a great way to repurpose your mirror! I bought one exactly like you photo and it’s been sitting in my basement for months. I’m gonna remember this!
Thanks Suzy :)
This turned out so great. It seems like total fails usually end up turning into the best projects.
