I know this is not the post you are use to seeing here but I really had to share! Hopefully I don’t loose any of you with this first recipe ;) Since it’s the beginning of a new year I’m sure there are quite a few of you (including myself) that are trying to improve your diet. My awesome mom brought a lovely little magazine over the other day (Everyday Food the Light Issue). As I was flipping through I came across this recipe……
Avocado-Banana Smoothie
{source}
1 avocado
1 banana
1/2 cup nonfat plain Greek yogurt
1 1/2 cups fresh orange juice (from 3 oranges) I used store bought – Simply Orange
1/4 cup honey ( I used an 1/8 cup agave nectar)
2 1/2 to 3 cups of ice
Blend until smooth
When I first glanced at the picture and read Avocado-Banana Smoothie I immediately turned up my nose. My boys both wanted smoothies for breakfast and I realized I only had bananas and avocados in my fruit basket. Well…. I figured I’d give it a try and to my surprise it was AMAZING. My two boys (four and two) drank the entire thing! So go ahead, give it a whirl!
We’ve also been trying our hand at green smoothies. I found this recipe that sounds really tasty too.
Green Machine Smoothie
{source}
1 cup packed fresh spinach leaves
1 1/4 cups white grape juice or pear juice
1/2 avocado
1 Granny Smith apple, peeled and cut into 1-inch pieces
1 cup ice
Blend until Smooth.
For those of you who haven’t tried spinach in a smoothie. I swear to you it doesn’t change the taste at all. If you blend it really well you can’t even tell it’s in there. Both of my boys get spinach in their smoothies and don’t blink an eye. If they comment on the color I tell them its a leprechaun smoothie ;) It works every time!

I have seen several of these smoothies around Pinterest, I have yet to try them though. Sounds like they may be tasty though, so I may have to make them.
We’ve become addicted to them and its a great way to sneak in those “yucky” greens that the kiddos don’t like ;)
Thanks for stopping by and also for the tip on the smoothies with the spinach:)

that looks really delicious!
They are really yummy! It’s currently my favorite smoothie :)
Avocado is not listed as an ingredients for your ‘avocado’ banana smoothie. Oops.
Yep, I wrote that post in a hurry. Sorry about that. It calls for one avocado and I fixed the post. Thanks :)
Hi, I’m intrigued by the Avocado-Banana smoothie, but the recipe doesn’t mention avocado. Or am I missing something? Thanks!
Sorry about that Annie! It was a quick post and I left out the key ingredient ;) It’s fixed now!
Am I reading the first recipe wrong? Where’s the avocado? This is definitely something I’d make for myself :)
Oh gosh! So sorry it was a quick post ;) It calls for one avocado and I fixed the error. Thanks for pointing that out lol :) It’s a really yummy smoothie you’ll have to give it a try.
I tried my first (3) green smoothies this week and I was pleasantly surprised I’ll have to try avocados in the mix tomorrow I hope you’ll add this and any of your other posts to my What We Wore and Made party over at http://raegunwear.blogspot.com/search/label/WWWMW
They are pretty yummy Marissa! The avocados add a different texture. They almost make your smoothie fluffy especially if it has banana in it. Its a great way to add in those extra nutrients ;) I’ll stop by and visit your party :)
I sneak in spinach ALL. THE. TIME. and you are right, they can never tell! I have not tried avocado in smoothies, but I bet it only makes the texture more amazing! Thanks for sharing! Come over tomorrow {Friday} and share on my new link party! http://www.dwellonjoy.com
