Underneaths….. do you paint them? Ya know…. when you are refinishing a piece of furniture and you know that no one will see underneath it (well maybe your cute little children) do you paint it? I’ve had this little curvy end table for my living room for quite awhile; it got a much needed coat of paint today. Do I paint underneath it?
I stopped at the D.I. (thrift store) yesterday to grab a gag gift and found this beauty…..
I’ve been looking for a coffee table for awhile to fill the awkward open space in my room. I dove right in and painted both of my tables as soon as the kiddos went down for their naps. My approach on painting was a bit different this time.
Yep, that’s my kitchen. It’s getting a little chilly here in Utah and the garage just didn’t make for a very comfy painting space. No worries. I’m using good ol latex paint so it didn’t fume up the house and I put my tables on old blankets so my floor didn’t get dirty.
I swore I had more paint trays but …. I didn’t and I was DETERMINED to get these bad boys painted. So I compromised by using….. TA DA paper plates! Awesome, I know, but they worked.
Hey, it all worked out and my tables got their lovely coat of off white. The paint dried much faster than it would have painting it in the freezing garage and they were done before the kiddos woke up! SCORE! The question is…. do you paint your underneaths? I didnt ;)
I’ll post the finished pictures soon. The tables just need a little distressing and glaze so they aren’t so stark white :)
I love your creative use for the paper plates. Can’t wait to see the big reveal. I’m a new follower.
lol Thanks Anita :) I was determined to get those darn tables painted ;)
Oh I can’t wait to see this! It looks like it is going to be so beautiful! How exciting!
Hopefully it turns out…. I’ve had an unlucky streak lately with refinishing furniture ;)
I’m not sure if I’d paint underneath, hmmmm, maybe not! thanks for stopping by my blog and for your lovely comment on my vintage paper trees!
I do not paint underneath and neither do the furniture companies . At least not on the furniture I have.
Very good to know! I’ve never bought painted furniture really. I’ve been doing all of my own for awhile but haven’t actually painted a table where the underneath part was actually open. I think I’ll veto painting the underneath :)
I never paint underneath cause I’m lazy like that…and too impatient. I can’t wait to see your reveal!!
Oh phew! Glad I’m not the only one ;)
i just recently painted an entire living room “suite” that is very similar to the second table! it was a lot of work, but i love it. now, i’m saving money to have the cushions recovered, in the meantime, it waits in my garage! i can’t wait to see yours when you’re done.
I’m sure that looks gorgeous! I’m slightly obsessed with the off white color right now :)
It’s too cold here in Chicago too, so I just re-did a farmhouse table in my kitchen. That means that for the last 2 weeks I’ve had TWO farmhouse tables in my kitchen. And it’s not a big room!!! The wax I put on isn’t drying so I don’t want to take it back out to the garage or to the store to sell until it does. It’s driving me crazy!! PS- I don’t usually paint my unders either ;)
Awesome Heidi! Glad I’m not the only one that turns my kitchen into a repainting workshop ;) I totally need a new kitchen table! I wish I could buy your farmhouse one ;)
GREAT finds!!! I don’t paint the under sides either.
Oh phew! I’m so glad to know I don’t have to waist my time with that ;)
Great tables! That’s the way I paint most the time! :) And in your next post, um YES, I love those chairs!!! I have two boys too {and a little girl}. Those chairs just make sense!
