First off I am completely open to honest opinions. I will share mine with you but don’t let it affect what you think! We rearranged our living room and I have a problem….. I think I like it better the old way. Here are the pro’s/con’s to the layouts…….
Old Layout
Pros:
- very cozy and comfortable
- visually appealing
Cons:
- doesn’t provide a lot of floor space
- unable to use end tables with lamps due to outlet/cord issues
- not enough space for a coffee table
- couldn’t see the TV very well from the love seat
New Layout
Pros:
- A LOT more floor space
- I can use a coffee table and end tables
- you can see the TV well from love seat and sofa
Cons:
- not as visually appealing
OK… OK… the pro’s/con’s make it totally obvious which layout I should stick with but here is my battle. I’m a very visual person and the new layout just isn’t fulfilling my visual needs but I love that it provides more floor space for the kiddos to play.
Here are the things I still need to add to the room. Maybe once I finish it and add the missing pieces I will like it a little more…… enough babbling….. what are your thoughts? Sorry the pics are a little dark… it was a gloomy day.

I think it looks fabulous! You have such awesome style! I am loving that big beam you have for your shelf! Very clever! Great job!
Thanks Lindsay! I’m in love with my beam also! It’s going to be fun to decorate and rearrange with the seasons/holidays :)
It’s so hard to get a feel for the room without being there. I do like the cozier look of the “before” room better, but it’s so important that the room functions for you and your family. Love that big shelf!
Thanks so much for stopping by to visit with me and for your nice comment.
I will most likely stick with the new layout. I’m sure it will wear on me and once I get that big open space on my floor filled in a little with a rug and coffee table it will feel a little more cozy! Thanks for the support :)
I hate it when I go to all that trouble to try something new and then I’m not happy. But I understand you dilemma! Not being able to use lamps would be a key issue with me. Hopefully once you’ve added in your extra to-do’s you’ll be visually happier! :)
What a great and challenging space! Ooh… you’ve got my furniture-rearranging mind buzzing.
Happy decorating!

I have a furniture rearranging mind also ;) I’ve been rearranging furniture since I was old and big enough to move it lol. My living room now only has a few options so I don’t get to rearrange is much dang it.
Well.. I think it’s an issue of space. What if you did away with the love seat and found another great occasional chair? The love seat and sofa look a little cramped. An area rug would help the space feel more complete too. Just my opinion. I know it’s hard when you need the seating.
I agree with the space issue. I would LOVE to have two chairs. The “big” secret about my orange wing back is…. I reupholstered it myself and then it broke when someone sat in it :( So it’s not functional and I cant use it for actual seating. Maybe I’ll shoot for a goal of getting two new functional chairs! Thanks for the feedback…. sometimes It’s hard to think outside of the box when it’s your own home ;)
Love the new layout!
I stumbled this!
I definitely love the visual appeal of the first layout, but I also think functional is a MUST. :) I would try to get 2 smaller chairs in that space as well and take out the broken one (even thought it’s so pretty!) and the loveseat (is it blocking the front door a bit?). Love your sense of style, and once you make the changes you listed in the last picture, your living room will be even more beautiful AND functional. Way to go! :)
Thanks Audrey! I’m on a search for two new chairs! My loveseat is in front of the door but it’s to the back yard. I need to eventually find a more open/window type of door to open up that wall a little more. Thanks for the support!
It looks amazing I love it. Thank you so much sharing and for linking up to our party Show and Share this week! Come on back this Wednesday to link up your current projects.

What if you put the loveseat somewhere else and replaced it with a chair and a half? Just a thought – my living room layout is driving me crazy – we have a corner fireplace which just makes everything more difficult
I think that’s what I’m going to shoot for! I’m on a search for the “right” chairs along with everything else for the room ;) eeek a corner fire place would really complicate things!
Don’t we all have one of those spaces that are hard to get just right!! I think either way it looks great- thanks for linking up at FNF:)
