Laundry/Mud Room

Basket Chandelier

I’ve been dying to change out all of the standard builder lights in my home. I’ve been slowly working on my living room one piece at a time and the next step was the hideous light.  That flush mount light was just down right horrid and I was really getting sick of staring at it. I found an awesome tutorial for this hanging basket chandelier over at Vintage Revivals. Mandi is one talented woman I tell ya! You should see what she just did to her neighbors living room.

Here is the “before” picture of the lovely flush mount light.

Here is the “after” with the hanging basket chandelier. Much better!

I covered my chain and cord with a cord cover. I think it warmed it up a little more.

My favorite thing about my new chandelier is the awesome shadows it casts onto the ceiling. It adds a little more detail when you flip on the switch! The other awesome thing about this light is the cost…. $25 bucks! I bought my old chandelier light from the DI thrift store and my two baskets from Lowe’s were about $20. You cant beat that! I now have a new problem…. I want to make one of these for every single room in my house! If you want to make one yourself head on over to Mandi’s site and check out her tutorial! Happy Friday!

Next up on the list…curtains!

Tutorial of the week…..

I am working on an awesome tutorial for you! This awesome lamp shade is for my clients entry table and I really can’t wait to see the finished product! I might be making a few more of these for my bedroom depending on how the first one goes ;) Do ya want to see my inspirational picture?

It doesn’t look like it should be too hard to duplicate right? I’ve had problems with “decorators block” lately so hopefully it goes smoothly! Wish me luck! I hope you have a lovely week! I’ll post pictures and the tutorial soon!

2011 SLC Parade of Homes – Laundry Room and Mud Area

Welcome to the Mud Room! You walk into the mud room from the garage. To the right you have your laundry room and to your left you have the half bath. I finished my first stencil job in the half bath and I feel very accomplished! A stenciled wall might appear in my home soon!

I LOVE the simplicity of the mud area. The storage unit is from IKEA and I like that it’s not your typical bench or shelving units. It brightens up the space and gives it a clean, organized look.

I made the message board out of an old window and chicken wire. The reminder notes are attached to the chicken wire with clothes pins. If I had a mud room in my house I might have four of these ;)

The awesome Wash, Dry, Fold sign is an old door that I bought from Sausha. She refinished it and added the cute stencil. She was a BIG lifesaver. I was in a time crunch towards the end and had a hard time finding a few things I needed that were within budget. Sausha happened to have the furniture pieces I needed and the amazing laundry room sign that filled that big wall perfectly! She does amazing work so make sure you check out her !

Do you recognize any of the decor accessories? I used some of my own things to fill in a few gaps. I can’t wait to find a nestled spot for my awesome goodies when the parade is over. Do I hear a little home rearrangement calling my name? Possibly ;) shhhh it wont be anything too big so don’t tell the husband lol
