Picking Paint: Mood

When you begin the decorating process in any room it’s very important to keep in mind the “mood” you want to set. For example in a theater or game room you would want it to be fun and inviting, whereas in your bedroom you might want it to be calm and relaxing. Its amazing what color can do for your mood!

Mood

How do you want to feel when you’re in your room? What type of energy are you after?

~ Calming, Relaxing, Quite and Restful – neutral,  soft, cool colors will create this feeling

~ Active, Stimulating, Exciting, and Sociable – strong bold colors are used for drama

~ Formal and Orderly – neutrals and warm blues/greens create this ambiance

When choosing a color for a bedroom be careful not to pick an overstimulating hue. Its been said that brighter colors can cause irritability and unrest. The picture below completely explains why ;)

Picking Paint: Finding Your Color

Today kicks off the mini series on Picking Paint. I’ve picked out a few key factors that will hopefully help your process run more smoothly!

Finding Your Color

~ Your paint color should be decided after you have picked out fabric, rugs, furniture, and flooring.

~ Find a color in your artwork, a rug, accessories or your fabric as a main color or accent.

~ If you choose  to use a color from your fabric, it’s best to pick a color from the background of your print. The only exception would be for accent walls. If you plan to have an accent wall you can choose a bold color from your print.

Here is an example: The inspiration piece for my Master Bedroom is my pillows.

I choose a very subtle color close to the background color of my pillow.

~The most important thing to remember is that paint should highlight your furnishings and decor not over power them.

Stripes or Solid

I’m getting a few things organized for my next project. It’s in my own home and I can’t wait! My poor little house has been slightly neglected lately because I was so busy working on the Parade Home. Here are my inspirational pictures/idea’s of what I might be doing!

These stripes but with this color.

and I might attempt some DYI artwork.

I love these simple art pieces that made. I might change up the colors a bit; we’ll see.

Decisions…. Decisions….. I’ll keep brainstorming!
