They are finished! I finally found more succulents so I could finish building my jar terrariums. They aren’t as full or vibrant as my inspiration but I love them! I had the hardest time finding decent succulents when it finally dawned on me….. IKEA! I swear sometimes that place has the answer to everything ;)
These two smaller succulents are both from IKEA. If you plan on making your own terrariums check there first. They had the BEST selection.
The succulents in my large jar are from Home Depot; their selection was horrible! It consisted of the four plants that are in my pot and they were all very small. I was desperate and wanted my terrariums finished so I bought them. I hope they survive!
Here is the entourage of terrariums ha ha ha. This is seriously the perfect spot to place them and I love the simple/clean look they provide. Wish me luck with my not so green thumb! If you want to build your own terrariums stop by and visit Jamie for an awesome tutorial.
While I was at IKEA I picked up this cute fake herb plant to build a new table scape for my dining table. It works for now!
I also picked up this lovely item……
Yep its blue and white stripes…. my current obsession and I think I’m making pillows with it for my bedroom. It will look awesome with my latest purchase which is currently being shipped!

It looks great! I love this idea, what a fun new piece! And I can’t wait to see what you do with the striped fabric!
Thanks Lindsay :) I can’t wait to start sewing… it might have to wait until I have some time off next week though :/ urgh
Love them, I really want to do some!!
Thanks Heidi! You totally should. Its fun to have a little greenery in your home :)
I love these I hope you’ll add it to my What We Wore and Made Party over at http://raegunwear.blogspot.com/search/label/WWWMW
Thanks Marissa! I’ll stop by and join the party ;)
Our nearest Ikea is over an hour away. Your lovely photos are making me think it’d be worth the drive.
Oh darn Heidi…. I’m slightly obsessed with Ikea so I would totally make the drive ;) I about DIED when they built one only 20 minutes from my home!
Oh we do make the pilgrimage, quite often. ;) I just meant that I may have to take another trip up there soon, just for succulents!
lol I see!!! I was REALLY impressed with their selection so hopefully you aren’t disappointed when you go :)
Awesome! I love the little chick plants… I cant remember if thats therye name or not but thats what I call them… when you gonna get a button so I can put it on my blog :)
Thanks buddy :) I’m trying to redo my little bloggeroo right now so once it’s done hopefully I’ll have a button!
Love your plants, I’ve been thinking about doing some, now you have inspired me! I’m now following you!
Thanks Lorrie! Glad to have you following along :) They are so easy to make and so far pretty easy to care for. I hope you enjoy them!
Those look awesome! Are succulents easy to care for? My family jokes that I have a ‘black thumb’ instead of a green one; anything I try to keep indoors doesn’t last long… Thanks for sharing at Shine on Fridays this week!
Thanks Amy, I’ve heard that they are easy to care for. I also have the dreaded “black thumb” lol so I was very hesitant to spend the money and time making these. Its been a few weeks and I haven’t managed to kill them yet. Hopefully it stays that way ;)
Love the striped fabric
How do you prevent moisture buildup in enclosed terrarium, which will kill succulents? Let me know how so I can try it.
Hi Gail :) I ended up taking the lid off of my big jar :/ I noticed the plants were wilting and figured it was because of the extra moisture. They are doing much better now! I wish I knew the answer to your question!
You won’t believe it, but I woke up this morning thinking of a terrarium! Your’re are great and I like the variety of succulents, and the way you elevated the center jar on a basket. Thanks for the tip on IKEA. I’m happy to be your newest follower.
Babs
Thanks for the sweet comment Babs :) That’s so funny you woke up thinking succulents. That’s how my little mind works too and then I’m dead set on making it ;)
The terrariums turned out nice. Thanks for the tip on where to pick up succulents. I wish we had an Ikea closer!
Thanks Kimberly! I love that our Ikea is so close…. my husband probably doesn’t ;) You can try looking at your local nurseries for succulents. I’m sure they would have a good selection.
This project is awesome! I want to try to make one under a cloche. It would be super cool if would come by today to enter my giveaway for a $50 Lowe’s gift card and to link up to my very first party! http://thespacebetweenblog.wordpress.com/2012/01/31/imagine-the-impossibilities-link-party-1/

Your terreriums look great…Good luck! LOVE Ikea! Laurel
Thanks Laurel :)
Hi! Just stopping by from New Nostalgia. What a great way to bring some life inside during the winter! This is what I’m craving right now, but I think I want to try it with herbs. Fingers crossed. ;)
Thanks Dana :) I would LOVE to try herbs. I figured if I can keep the succulents alive the herbs will be my reward lol Good luck with yours!
I’ve been meaning to make one of those! Yours are very nice and they look great grouped like that!
Thanks Heather! They are so easy to make and so far they are pretty easy to care for. I’ve kept them alive for about two weeks now. Hopefully that’s a good sign :)
Oh, I just love them! I saw some in a magazine recently and thought how fun it would be to create some with my kiddos. Thank you so much for sharing them with us today at Inspiration Friday! :-)
Vanessa
Thanks Vanessa :) We added a few plastic jungle animals in with the plants. My boys LOVE them!
Oh I love succulents and these look awesome! I had some but managed to kill them :( I don’t have a very green thumb!
Thanks Jessica! The funny thing is… I’m married to a landscaper and my thumb is far from green lol ;) A few of my succulents seem to be doing really well but the ones I purchased from Home Depot still look like they are hanging on for dear life. Hopefully they survive!
