Jar Terrariums

They are finished! I finally found more succulents so I could finish building my jar terrariums. They aren’t as full or vibrant as my inspiration but I love them! I had the hardest time finding decent succulents when it finally dawned on me….. IKEA! I swear sometimes that place has the answer to everything ;)

These two smaller succulents are both from IKEA. If you plan on making your own terrariums check there first. They had the BEST selection.

The succulents in my large jar are from Home Depot; their selection was horrible! It consisted of the four plants that are in my pot and they were all very small. I was desperate and wanted my terrariums finished so I bought them. I hope they survive!

Here is the entourage of terrariums ha ha ha. This is seriously the perfect spot to place them and I love the simple/clean look they provide. Wish me luck with my not so green thumb! If you want to build your own terrariums stop by and visit Jamie for an awesome tutorial.

While I was at IKEA I picked up this cute fake herb plant to build a new table scape for my dining table. It works for now!

I also picked up this lovely item……

Yep its blue and white stripes…. my current obsession and I think I’m making pillows with it for my bedroom. It will look awesome with my latest purchase which is currently being shipped!

Industrial Metal Chairs

I’m not usually one to jump on the “trend band wagon” but I’ve seen these chairs floating around blog land and I have to admit…. I’M OBSESSED! My kitchen REALLY needs a little makeover…. especially my table and chairs. I might need to create a chair savings ;)

I’m in LOVE! They are stylish and would hold up well against my two crazy boys.

Love the white chairs with that blue table!

The rustic version

One random yellow chair… kinda like it!

Wouldn’t these chairs look awesome with Miss Mustard Seed’s farm house table …. oh I think so. I need to make one of these tables very very soon ;)

Hanging Your Curtains:Rules

Kirsten Krason from 6th Street Design School shared some awesome curtain hanging tips on her blog.

Here is the segment she did on Studio 5 but I’ll give you the summary of her tips……

  1. How to Hang:  Hang them HIGH! Hang your curtains at least 5-8 inches higher than your window. This will help the ceilings seem taller and the window setting looks better.  You really can’t hang them too high!
  2.  Length: Floor length curtains need to touch the floor. If they aren’t it looks like you didn’t measure properly. If you want a more formal look allow your curtains to pool on the floor. If you want to use short curtains…. make them short.
  3.  Custom: Custom curtains are great for creating a more unique look. This is also a great way to go if you are in need of a longer length curtain. Kirsten recommend finding a great priced curtain and sewing them yourself.
  4. Pattern: If you want to use patterned curtains be careful not to put them in a room that already has a lot going on. Color is also very important. You want a curtain that offers contrast against your walls. If you want to add other patterns in the room go with a more simple pattern.
  5.  Budget: Curtains can be expensive but are just as important as the rest of the furniture in your room. “It’s the biggest wow factor in the room.” It’s important to budget appropriately so you can purchase good quality curtains.
  6. Tips to Save: ~You can buy just one panel and cut it in half.  ~Add a solid piece of fabric to the bottom of your panels. This saves you money because you are adding length to a shorter panel. ~Use  sheets to make your own curtains.
  7. Purchasing Curtains: A few good places are Ikea, Target, World Market

Awesome tips right! Make sure to stop by her blog and check out the full Studio 5 Segment.
